What colour should you choose

When it comes to painting a new property, many people are tempted to dive right in and start experimenting with bold colors and intricate designs. However, as experienced painters and decorators, we always recommend starting with a clean slate - and that means painting the walls white for the first 6 months.

Why do we suggest this approach? There are several good reasons:

  1. Allows you to see the property in natural light: When you move into a new property, it can take time to get a feel for how the light falls in each room. By painting the walls white, you can see how the natural light affects the space, and how different times of day impact the look and feel of each room.

  2. Makes it easier to envision different colors and styles: By starting with a blank canvas, you can more easily envision different color schemes and design elements. This can help you make more informed decisions about which colors and styles will work best in each room, and avoid costly mistakes down the line.

  3. Creates a clean, neutral backdrop: White walls create a clean, neutral backdrop that allows your furniture and decor to take center stage. This can be especially helpful if you're still in the process of decorating, as it gives you more flexibility to experiment with different styles and pieces.

  4. Increases the resale value of the property: When it comes time to sell the property, neutral white walls are a major selling point. Buyers can easily envision their own furniture and decor in the space, and are less likely to be put off by bold or unusual colors.

In short, starting with white walls for the first 6 months can be a smart, practical approach when it comes to painting a new property. Not only does it allow you to get a feel for the space and experiment with different styles, but it can also increase the resale value of the property in the long run.
